How to Setup RoboForm to Make Password and Login
This article will show you how to setup RoboForm Desktop and make it work like a charm.
Step 1: Install and Activate RoboForm
- Download RoboForm and install on Windows and Mac.
- After purchase RoboForm, here is the procedure to activate RoboForm. Name and Order ID/Order E-mail are required. Internet Explorer is recommended to activate RoboForm.
- If you are using RoboForm for Windows version 7.4.0 or later: Select the RoboForm icon -> Help -> Activate RoboForm Pro
- If you are using RoboForm for Mac version 0.9.32 or later: Select the RoboForm icon -> Activate RoboForm
Step 2: Using RoboForm Toolbar
After the previous step, RoboForm will add Toolbar and other controls to your browser. Now see how to get started using RoboForm.
1. Save Forms
When you manually enter login data to login page and click the Login (Submit) button, RoboForm will show you the AutoSave dialog to save login data to a Passcard so next time you can login the account with one click.
When you visit a web site for which you saved Passcard(s), the RoboForm Toolbar button will show the name of the Passcard that matches this page. This button is called Matching Passcards button. Click this button to fill form with data from this Passcard and login with ease. Note that if more than one Passcard that matches web site, the ( +N ) will be shown.
3. Fill long forms from Identities
RoboForm can save your personal data like name, address, telephone, card number, etc. in an Identity. Usually you would need one or two Identities: one for registering for free stuff, another for making real purchases on the web. To create a new identity, go to Taskbar icon > Identities > New and input your personal data. With identities, RoboForm will enter this data into web page forms for you.
Since not all the forms have the same field, RoboForm allows you set up Custom fields in an identity. This feature is very helpful to fill some non-standard forms. See how to use Custom Field in RoboForm.
4. Generate Passwords and Remember for You
You can start RoboForm password generator from Toolbar Generate button or Taskbar icon > Tools > Generate Passwords. A password will be generated automatically. Click Generate for a new one. You can either click Fill to fill the generated password into web form or copy to use in other applications.
After sign up your account with the generated password, you need to sign off and login your account one time with username and password (Click Fill) and you will be prompted to save your username and password as a Login. Click Save. This way, the saved Login will appear in the Toolbar when you open the sign page next time. Click it to sign in your account without remembering the secure password yourself.
Step 3: Customizing RoboForm
Toolbar is the easiest way to access passwords and personal data stored in RoboForm. You can not only customize RoboForm Toolbar, but also make settings to master password protection, keyboard shortcuts, browser integration, AutoFill, etc. All these customizable options make RoboForm a better password manager. To bring up the Option window, go to Taskbar icon > Options or Toolbar icon > Options.
As a password manager, it's crucial to provide ways to protect all your important passwords. Besides advanced encryption algorithm, RoboForm also allows you to set a Master Password to safeguard your passwords. The Master Password is highly recommended. To set it, open the Options dialog (select "RoboForm -> Options" in the toolbar) and clicking "Set Master Password" in the "Security" tab.
